Helmets ON – 5 Motorcycle Safety Tips for the Summers

Daniel Roberts

With the summers come bright smiles, lighter moods, and the opportunity to bike to your heart’s content! And while some people will have you believe that the icy roads of the winters present the best biking experience, there’s no denying that tearing down the motorway with a cool wind blowing in your face is better in almost every single aspect.

That being said, there are countless steps you should take to ensure that your safety isn’t compromised when biking in the summers. So, if you want to have fun in a safe setting, here are the steps you need to take to get the most out of your next biking session.

Tip#1 – Wear Your Gear:

Contrary to popular belief, your biking gear isn’t just there to make you look good; it plays a vital role in keeping you safe. And while the summer heat may tempt you to take off your helmet, we strongly caution against it as it severely compromises your safety.

So, when biking in the summers, wear your complete biking outfit. This includes the windbreaker (or jacket), sunglasses, pads, and, of course, helmet. After all; safety is (and should always be) your number one priority.

Tip #2 – Staying Hydrated:

An unspoken truth of the summers is that they come with a significantly increased probability of heat strokes. These heat strokes come out of nowhere and, if left untreated or unaddressed for too long, can even be fatal.

However, fighting against heat strokes is relatively straightforward. All you need to do is to keep yourself hydrated. So, if you’re going to be biking for hours, we highly suggest keeping a water bottle with you. Drink plenty of fluids and keep yourself to prevent heat-strokes from causing you grief.

Tip #3 – Take It Easy:

While biking without taking any stops may seem like a wise idea at first, it doesn’t tend to end well for the driver in the summers. Simply put, not only are you endangering yourself by being out in the sun for too long, you’re also hampering the performance of your bike.

A better approach would be to take breaks when biking in the summers. Get out of the sun and take shelter at your local convenience store for a few minutes. Not only will this rejuvenate your body and mind, but it will also give your bike some time to cool down; which is always a wise idea!

Tip #4 – Perform Simple Maintenance:

This one’s a no-brainer. In order to guarantee your safety on the road, you need to perform simple maintenance on your motorcycle.

This is even more relevant if you had stored your bike away for the winters as you could potentially be looking at a plethora of different issues, ranging from something as simple as a busted headlight, to something as complicated as a clogged carburetor.

So, before you take your bike out, we want you to perform simple maintenance tasks on it. Check for any rust spots and promptly address them. Similarly, test the performance of the battery and see if it holds up.

Tip #5 – Comprehensive Inspection:

However, before you even think about taking your bike out for a spin in the summers, it’s of the utmost importance that you have it inspected by your local bike repair shop. Believe us when we say this; there are countless minor issues that can be spotted and resolved before they worsen and cause you serious financial grief.
