Do You Own A Classic Japanese Motorbike? Here’s How You Can Restore It To New!

Daniel Roberts

Motorcycles are fun, adventurous, and a great way to travel to different parts of the country. Vintage motorcycles are a class of their own, being a symbol of timeless beauty.

This is especially true for Japanese vintage motorcycles. They’re a work of art and a reminder of the amazing mechanical technology of Japan. Their incredible structure, the smooth tires, and beautiful aesthetics are still unmatched, even in comparison to their modern-day counterparts.

If you own a Japanese vintage motorcycle that needs some repairs, here are a few ways to restore it:

Check for Any Faults and Damages

The first step is to make sure there aren’t any irreparable damages. It’s important to check for compression, tires, and gears.

Start by kicking or cranking the bike to see whether it has compression. Are any of the parts broken? Are any of the parts missing? This is important because you want to make sure you don’t have to spend more than what you need to.

Make sure you pay special attention to gauges, sprockets, carbs, and the brakes. If something is missing, make sure to jot it down. Other things to look out for are a dead battery and a dirty/dusty tank.

Getting Started

The first thing to do is to check the battery. Without a battery, your bike will be useless.

Make sure the battery is distilled with water or battery acid. If the battery does not charge more than 75 percent, you will need a new one.

Second step to take is to drain the fuel tank of the old fuel. If you’ve never done this before, leave this to the pros or get help from someone who knows how to do this.  If there is rust in the tank, you will have to get it thoroughly cleaned.

Check the fuel tank for any leaks. This is very important because a damaged fuel tank compromises safety. If your fuel valve does not work properly, you’ll need to take it out and clean it thoroughly.
