Collector’s Indulgence: Top 5 Vintage Motorcycle Museums

Daniel Roberts

Walking through those aged halls, surrounded by a cacophony of excited voices with brochure-clutching hands; a visit to a museum is time well spent. Motorcycle museums are no exception. You cannot call yourself a true riding fanatic till you have had your fill of viewing the great antique masterpieces.

To celebrate your love of riding that soul-freeing two-wheeler, we have rounded up five must-visit motorcycle museums in the US.

1. Wheels Through Time – Maggie Valley, NC

If you are taking a day-trip down the western winding roads of North Carolina, don’t forget to stop by this museum for a knowledge-rich time in its motorcycling world.

With over 300 unique vintage motorcycles and historical memorabilia scattered throughout the friendly environment, Wheels Through Time is the Mecca for riding enthusiasts. Imagine viewing an over-hundred year-old motorcycle, followed by visiting the gift shop to get a matching miniature version!

2. Solvang Vintage Motorcycle Museum – Solvang, CA

This Danish-influenced city in the wine country is famed for more than just its fine reds; explore a motorcycle museum that delights every two-wheeler vehicle-enthusiast tourist.

Are you looking to indulge in some quality time studying a 1929 Harley JDH, and other vintage American contraptions? The Solvang Vintage Motorcycle Museum houses one of the largest collections of American, as well as Japanese and European classic motorcycles in the US.

3. Harley-Davidson Museum – Milwaukee, WI

You can’t be a true motorcycle enthusiast without being fascinated by the mastered art of Harley-Davidson manufacturers. Located near Downtown, Wisconsin, the Harley-Davidson Museum has an incredible display of vintage HD bikes.

If you feel exhausted from indulging in the gleeful tour around the exhibits, you can always pop in their Motor Café for a bite or two.

The museum also hosts exhibits for new releases from time to time. And there is more; riders can come take part in Bike Night, an event create just for the enthusiasts who want to show-off their skills on a motorcycle, while surrounded by… well, motorcycles!

4. Motorcycle Hall Of Fame Museum – Pickerington, OH

Want to sit on a classic Harley for a cubicle-décor worthy snapshot? Now is your chance! The Motorcycle Hall Of Fame exhibits a small but well put collection of motorcycles, ranging from the beginning of the vehicle’s history up to the modern iterations manufactured today.

The two-story museum also contains a section of famous racing motorcycles from some of your favorite action-genre films.

5. Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum – Birmingham, AL

With over 1000 motorcycles exhibited in this spacious museum, it is unsurprising that George Barber has defined the place to be housing the “largest motorcycle collection in the world”. With over 200 brands—including Honda, Harley-Davidson, Ducati, Indian and many others—the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is a must-visit place for any riding enthusiast with a diverse interest in vintage and cotemporary contraptions.

In addition to vintage motorcycles, the museum also displays a substantial number of vintage race cars, with the earliest models ranging from 1904.
